Welcome to the Nevis Historic Legacy Project 2022 participant page.
Important Updates June 23, 2022
Covid
The CDC has rescinded the requirement for airlines to check for a negative covid test before
anyone can return to the US from abroad. This happened while I was out of the country
last week and it was a great relief and saved a lot of time and money. Although proof of
vaccine status is also no longer required, I recommend you have it with you anyway.
Airlines
The airlines are still experiencing staffing shortages and making lots of adjustments to
their schedules. Don’t be surprised if your flight is changed (hopefully not canceled). Mine
has already been changed twice.
Consent Forms
You will be asked to sign two forms when we get to Nevis. One is an Image Release. This
gives me permission to use your picture on the website or in publications that result from
the project. You are not required to sign. If you don’t want your picture used, simply
don’t sign.
The second form is a Hold Harmless affidavit. This form states that you are aware there are
inherent risks in doing archaeology and that you are a volunteer and accept the risks; that
you have access to our own medical insurance; and do not hold me responsible for injury.
This is a standard form you would have signed for the university field school. It basically
protects me from lawsuits. I have no intention of putting anyone into a hazardous
situation, but little accidents happen. Example; in 2012 a student broke his foot on the
last day of the project before flying home. He stepped off a curb in an awkward way. He
was getting married the following week and did so in cast and crutches!
Opportunity
We have been asked to assist in training a group of Nevisians with preservation practices
for maintaining historic sites. I agreed to fit in a couple days for this during our stay.
